Alpha
Gamma Delta's official national philanthropy
is The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation. In
1979, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation was
adopted as the official beneficiary of
financial support and service of the
Foundation. Then, the philanthropic
efforts of the fraternity were directed
toward the treatment, research and cure of
diabetes mellitus in 1991.
Organizations and research personnel working
on the cure and treatment of diabetes
mellitus are the official beneficiaries of
financial support from the Alpha Gamma Delta
Foundation.
The
Foundation is a non-profit corporation,
separate from the Fraternity structure,
administered by Trustees appointed by the
Foundation Board. It was established
to provide a place through which all of the
Fraternity's charitable projects could be
funded.
The
mission of the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation
is:
1. To generate financial resources to fund
the educational, philanthropic and
leadership purposes of Alpha Gamma Delta
Fraternity.
2. To support those purposes, for both
members and non-members through financial
grants for scholarships; leadership
training; diabetes research; education and
equiptment; emergency financial assistance;
wellness issues and programs that enhance
high personal standards of ethics and value.
The
Foundation is Alpha Gamma Delta's
philanthropy, through which we help each
other and benefit worthy charitable causes.
Leadership receives attention through the
partial funding of leadership materials
supplied to chapters used by chapter
officers and advisors. Since diabetes
is the current philanthropic purpose of the
philanthropy, large grants are given to
organizations and individuals for research,
care and treatment of patients, and
education about the disease. The
Sister Income Supplement Grant Program
provides financial assistance to members on
an emergency basis. Endowed
scholarships are available to collegiate or
alumnae members, usually in a specific field
of study or for members of a particular
chapter. In addition to these grants, the
Foundation provides a number of scholarships
annually without a limitation on either
field of study or chapter affiliation.
